This report shows the results of a NVC survey of sand dune and salmarsh habitats in the North Lincolnshire Coast SSSI undertaken in September 2001. The surveyed area totalled 1018.5 ha. The dataset contains a list of the major habitats found and their extent, biotope survey of the largest habitats such as saltmarsh and sand dunes, comparrisons of the dataset with previous surveys to assess any change to the habitats.

Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Mapping was made on to transparent overlays upon 1:5000 panchromatic aerial photographs. Photographs were provided by English Nature. Vegetation types were described using quadrat samples (2 m x 2 m size for most vegetation, 10 m x 10 m size in areas of scrub on dunes). The cover - abundance of species was recorded using the Domin scale. All species were recorded, including bryophytes and lichens. The locations of each quadrat, photograph and target note were recorded using a handheld global positioning system (GPS), entering results as 1 m accuracy national grid coordinates (instrument accuracy was +/- 5m.). The coordinates for quadrats, target notes and photography were imported as spreadsheets into MapInfo Professional GIS (version 6.5) and transformed into point layers. |
